Iain Duncumb
Iain is a technologist with broad experience in electronics,
software and communications and strong commercial understanding.
After leaving Cambridge University with a degree in engineering,
he joined a local start-up company to develop Building Energy
Management Systems. Over the next 10 years the company was
bought first by Pottertons and then by Schlumberger Industries
and Iain progressed to be R&D Manager with 10 technical
staff. He was then transferred within Schlumberger to be Director
of R&D at their Felixstowe site where he was responsible
for developing electronic electricity metering systems with
a department of 30 engineers. During this time he reduced
time-to-market for new products by 40% by introducing multi-disciplinary
development teams.
In 1994, he left Schlumberger to get closer again to interesting
technology and gained an MSc with distinction at Loughborough
University in user-interface design. Following this he worked
as a researcher and then project manager on a number of projects
in digital broadcasting and mobile telecoms. Most recently,
he conceived, found industrial partners and obtained £350k
of government funding for a multimedia DAB Digital Radio project.
He managed the project to its successful conclusion at the
end of 2003.
Iain now invests and works in start-up companies and continues
consultancy work with Loughborough University.
